Upadate..

Adding more detail to the boxing area and basketball gym..

Revamped boxing ring..

As promised, I went back and re did the boxing ring. Looks much more realistic in my opinion. Still havent messed withe the other parts of that room though. I'll probably work on that now.

Preview of my biggest project...

Its really time to start beefing up my portfolio...I've started this, what is probably my biggest project yet...a 32 hour fitness like gym, complete with a basketball gym and boxing ring.
Its about 30% done. Its driving me crazy and the poly count is up there pretty high, and its only gonna get higher. Check back frequently for more updates as this project will surely get finished.
I'm liking the way its turning out so far, except for the boxing ring. It looks really fake compared to everything else. I'm going to redo it. Oh yea, I actually modeled out a net for a basketball hoop lmao..wow. Like seriously, who does that? Its eating some SERIOUS polys but I dont care cause it looks cool to me lol.

I dont why I did this..I just wanted to see this thing in motion...its not even completed modeling yet lol.

Tried to fix the scale on the middle counter and mircrowave a little..

More progress

....alright, its almost there..still gotta populate the counters and figure out the lighting...I'm going all the way with this one...I know for sure now that I wanna do this kinda stuff...it dosent even have to be for a game I don't care this is fun as hell lol.

Update..like 30 mins later lol..

I'm really having fun with this...I don't even wanna sleep...been goin at it for hours though, I'm finally gonna rest now.

New Kitchen project..

Ok, so I didnt get my city finished. Its cool though. I had a portfolio review, and was told my environments were very good and that I need to strengthen those skills even more. They also told me that my 2d was clearly a weakness and to really work on that. I took those words to heart and started a new kitchen. Its pretty much done modeled, I just need to put various objects on the counters and stuff. Then, the texture is whats going to really make it stand out...I using a photo as reference, but I'm not modeling it EXACTLY after it. Only like 90% lol.

Texture progress

Alrighty....here is the crossbow with its diffuse texture. Its amazing what a few tricks that photoshop can do that i was not aware of. Also finally starting to use reference when modeling and texturing and I'm starting to see a lot of improvement on both fronts. I'm still working on the normal map, so there isnt one applied yet. Also here is another weapon, a Merf (Nerf, lol) small pistol for my prototyping class..I didnt model it, but I did the texture, and its lookin way better than the way I was texturing it before I was taught a few new tricks with photoshop. I'm p'roud of my progress. It should be noted as well that a fellow classmate of mine designed the "Merf" logo. I just slapped it on my textures for our class. He did a good job on it.

Decided to try another weapon for fun..

So here is a desert eagle I started yesterday after I did the bow. I decided to try a real weapon. Its pretty fun modeling this stuff, and pretty challenging. This is about halfway done, but I made some mistakes in its earlier stages that I didnt catch until now. If I was to start over, which I will, it will be even better. Each new model I do from now on is gonna be a learning process. I'm pretty excited about my skills getting better. So, not sure if I'll try and finish this and make a new one, or just make a new one. Either way, its pretty cool.

Update...

Here is the bow with a few minor updates I was told by a few classmates. Scale in the polys under the trigger, use the actual bows that another classmate model for consistency, and round off the edges. The reaction to the gun was very good from classmates despite having to make these minor changes.

I had to redo a nerf crossbow for prototyping..

I thought I would post this just because I've never really posted objects here before. Someone from last quarters prototyping class made one, but they didn't like it to well so I was asked to redo it. Its not approved, or even finished yet, they haven't seen it yet. But I sort of like where its going. I used the real Nerf cross bow pictures that I found. They were very hard to come by. I'll post the finished product when its done.

Without light tracer...

New City

I'm making a new city for my portfolio. I really wanna surpass the other, so I'm going to put as much effort into this as possible, and try to actually finish this one. I've given myself till the end of the quarter for it. I just started about 3 days ago, not much to really show. The street layout is gonna be pretty difficult. I'll have to go take pictures, so the street now is just placeholder.

It's been a while....again

Well, a lot of things have happened since I last posted. A few issues happened with my team production class. i won't go into details, but suffice to say, I as well as a few others do not have our lead positions anymore for team production. I was a little upset at first, but I realize what was done, had to be done for the greater good. It is also a lot of weight off of my shoulders as well. Now its officially crunch time, and this team has a lot to prove. We have to get our first level done by the end of the quarter, so I will be extremely busy from here on out. I'll definately be posting more often now, talking about how the progress is coming along for us, as well as posting whatever work I happen to get done for the project. In the meantime, here is what I have....it's supposed to be a castle for a class I have. Not bad for cranking it out in a day.

Saturday, April 12, 2008

Well, I'm back. I realize it's been a while since I have posted any new artwork. I have been pretty busy to honest. I have some of the hardest classes in my major. But the big announcement I have is that I am participating in the team production class. A 3 quarter class where we are making a full fledged game. But even bigger than that, I was given the role of environment lead. Very unexpected. I have a group of 6 guys on my team, and it will be our job to make the environments that will be in the game. This is going to be a huge responsibility on my shoulders. Consequences of failing will be brutal. Rewards of succeeding will be great. I'm not in the mood to fail. Let the games begin.

prison cell

Update on the prison cell...it's coming along.
Very very early pic of a prison cell i started last night. Its not even close to finished, but I like it so far, so I decided to put it up now anyway.

I'm back....

Tutorials. In my opinion, what better way to learn. This is a space scene built in Max from a cool tutorial I tried to follow. The important thing here is that I've learned how to do a lot of things from this tutorial as far as materials and lighting go.

Sculpture madness.....made me stronger.

Here's the story. We had three weeks to do a sculpture for our midterm project. The armature is the most important part of any sculpture. It is everything. I learned this the hard way, because I had to start start the project over three different times due to a weak armature. So at approximately 2 am in the morning of February, 22, the early morning before the project was due, I would find out that I would have to start the entire project over for a third time. Tired, exhausted, and frustrated as hell, I was done. The class was going to get dropped, and I was just going to try to avoid sculpture for as long as I could get away with it. But wait. Then something happened. My roommate, Rick, and our friend Arnel wouldn't let that happen. They wouldn't let me give up. They strongly proposed that I start over yet again, with just hours until the deadline. At first I was going to refuse, complaining about how I couldn't build the armature. But that excuse wasn't good enough for these two. They helped me build a better armature. After the new armature was built, it was about 4am now. No sleep since the day before, and I had to start the sculpture. I was very discouraged throughout the process, running into numerous mistakes along the way. But, as the hours went by, and I worked furiously without eating or rest, with just a few very short breaks, I began to realize, maybe I could pull it off. Maybe I could finish it by 6pm. And that's exactly what happened. A full character sculpture was completed in about 14 hours straight. I couldn't believe it. It surely wasn't the best in the class by any means, but it was damn good considering the circumstances in which it was built. So with the help of my friends, determination, will, and a few red bulls, I finished it an hour before class. The greatest things I learned from this project, were one, if you don't understand how to do something, study it. And also ask for help quickly, because there are people who care, and they will help. And two, to not give up. Not just with school work, but with anything in life. In my seven quarters of being at Ai, this is one of the those experiences I'll cherish the most, because it showed me that I could look within myself to have the determination to finish something under the most excruciating circumstances. Because of this experience, I'll never make an excuse, and I'll never let myself give up on anything.

Not finished, but it's gettin' there.

My first, and so far only face model.

This was done a while back. It was the first time attempting face modeling and it was very difficult I must say. The left one is the normal map, the middle on is the low poly, and the last one is the high poly. And, yes, it is supposed to look like a zombie, lol.

A flythrough of a kitchen I did about 3 or 4 qtrs ago, and my first good project.

Yea, I made this a while back. I remember I had to start this entire project over when I was almost finished with it because my ipod broke. I'm happy with it, considering it was my first big and actually good 3d work that I ever did. I can say, once I did this project, I knew I loved 3d modeling environments and such. My progress has since come a long way. I appologize for it being a little fast, lol. I'll have to slow that down in Premier or something. The video took five hours to render in Max on my laptop.

I like the fire place...

I like the fire place, and the pic of the Mona Lisa above it, but I don't like the weird shadow below the picture frame, and my fire doesn't look realistic enough. Will it be fixed? You betcha.

Living room project from a while back

I did this project in my free time a while back. The lighting is not correct yet, and there are more objects to be added soon. I'll make time to get around to it.

What happend to the sidewalk there, lol?!

Yet another view of my city, but what happened to my sidewalk in the mid left hand corner. Well, I don't know to be honest, lol. It had to have happened at the last minute before I rendered it out. Not sure how it can be fixed, but I'll try!

another pic of the city

Just another pic of my city. I realize it's kind of cartoony looking, and the lighting is off. It will get fixed though.

My city and the "McDuffie's"

Yeah this is a pic of a city I modeled in Max. You can see the McDuffie's in the background. It's not finished, but I like the way it's progressing. I look forward to working on this more and making it a much more living, breathing environment.

"McDuffie's"

This is a pic of the inside of an eatery I call McDuffie's. It's not finished yet due to stress, but please believe it will get finished soon now. I really like the way that fountain soda machine came out.
